Music is taught by a specialist teacher in a dedicated music room through listening, composing, and performing, using a variety of different activities. Children are encouraged to work independently and in small groups on a range of projects, which include writing and performing their own raps, composing music for a chocolate advert, and making up their own fairy tale themes. Through these projects the children develop vital singing and instrumental skills, which they will build on and develop as they move up through the school.
In addition to timetabled Music lessons, children in Year 4 also have the opportunity to take part in First Access instrumental lessons, and Year 5 and Year 6 children take part in the annual Bournemouth Schools Music Association Carol Festival in the Bournemouth Pavilion. There is a choir for any children in KS2 and plans are in place for additional extra- curricular activities over the course of the year. Christmas productions are a feature of the school calendar with a production planned for the summer term.
