Geography Strategy

To develop our pupils’ passion for geography we aim to help develop children’s curiosity in both their immediate surroundings, the local community and the world we live in. Our hope is to equip children to be curious and passionate geographers, who understand the current human and physical challenges to our planet and to appreciate their role in ensuring a sustainable future.

To be well rounded citizens, we believe children need to understand the differences between places and their cultures and be able to recognise how these change over time. We aim to instill an interest in the world we live in and to spark their desire to investigate human and physical characteristics both near and afar.

Our geography curriculum enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas.  By linking geography to our WOW Days, pupils can apply their understanding of the topic across different subjects, whilst enjoying coming into school dressed up.

We use our geography curriculum to celebrate the diverse cultures we have in our school and to share pupils’ expertise with their peers.

As an Academy, we unpicked key geographical concepts, along with key skills that the pupils need to understand to become confident geographists and ensured they were carefully mapped out against our Medium Term Plans.
