Elm Academy PE Strategy

PE Intent

At Elm Academy, our vision for physical education is that every child should have the opportunity to develop the physical confidence and competence to enjoy being physically active. We strive to give as many children as possible the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive sports during their school life, giving them the prospect of understanding what competition feels like, what it is like to be part of a team, and to be able to both win and lose with equal grace. We are passionate about raising sporting achievement and
improving the health and well-being of all our pupils. Our aim is to deliver a high quality P.E. curriculum and to offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities linked to this curriculum to enable all pupils to build their confidence and achieve their full potential. You can see the extra curricular sessions we offer here – http://www.elm-academy.org.uk/pupils/after-school-clubs/

We consider it important that our children ‘learn to lead’ and therefore we offer our pupils the opportunity to lead activities during their time in school. This can be in the role as Sports Leaders, Sports Monitors or Prefects. Leadership gives children the understanding of what it is like to have responsibility, to show respect for rules and brings the added challenge of organisation, communication and teamwork.
