Science Intent, Implementation and Impact

Science Strategy

We aim to give children a science curriculum which enables them to explore and discover the world around them, confidently, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. Through an engaging and practical curriculum, we hope to ignite pupils’ curiosity, inspiring them to develop their scientific thinking further. Through hands-on, enquiry based activities, we will foster a thirst for knowledge whilst encouraging our pupils to continuously deepen their knowledge and understanding. Our staff ensure that pupils are engaged and enthused with their science learning to support progression.

A scientist observes, questions, creates hypotheses, experiments, records data, and then analyses that data. All children can be scientists by following their own natural curiosity, and at Elm Academy, teachers help to build and reinforce these skills so that children are able to thrive and achieve.

Pupils thoroughly enjoy getting involved with science experiments, such as this one exploring which type of chocolate melts the quickest:

Pupils at Elm Academy thoroughly enjoy celebrating their science learning and taking part in national events such as World Space Week.
